The Cove Retreat is an absolute oceanfront studio in Coral Cove, a quiet coastal settlement in the Bundaberg region about four hours north of Brisbane, and it is run by on-site managers who actively welcome dogs. A ground-floor, self-contained studio with a fenced oceanfront backyard is a rare combination on this stretch of coast.

Dogs at the retreat

Small to medium dogs are generally welcomed inside the ground-floor studio, and there is a friendly resident dog on the property, which suits social dogs and matters for reactive ones. The backyard on the oceanfront side is fully fenced, giving secure outdoor time without an open boundary. The firm rule is that dogs must not be left unattended in the accommodation at any time; if you need dog-free hours, the managers offer a dog-sitting service for a fee, which is unusual and genuinely useful for days out at the turtle rookery or the distillery circuit. Hosts ask to be told in advance that you are bringing a pet, and shared outdoor spaces such as the fire pit and pool areas are open to dogs provided other guests' space is respected.

The studio

The studio is private and self-contained, with ocean views from the upper bedroom and balcony and the sound of the surf as the backdrop. It sits in a residential cul-de-sac with street or designated parking, so arriving with a car and a dog is straightforward. The tone of the property is a quiet getaway, so calm, settled dogs are the fit.

Getting there and the dog rules

Coral Cove sits between Innes Park and Elliott Heads on the Coral Coast. There are no designated off-leash beaches in Coral Cove or Bargara under Bundaberg Regional Council, and shoreline zones near the Mon Repos turtle nesting area are sensitive, so keep to on-leash foreshore walks and check the council's beach maps. For fenced off-leash time, Mary Kinross Park and the Bargara off-leash dog park are the closest designated options, a short drive north.
