Bargara Off leash dog park

This off-leash area sits at the northern end of Bargara around Neilson Park on Fred Courtice Avenue, one of the spots Bundaberg Regional Council recognises as a dog off-leash area. It is open coastal parkland close to the beach, so dogs can run while you stay near the water.

The rules

Off-leash is allowed only within the designated area, and dogs must be leashed coming in and going out. Keep your dog under effective control so it returns when called, and leash and remove any dog that turns aggressive.

Do not let dogs chase wildlife or other park users, and clean up after yours; bags and bins are provided. Confirm the exact boundaries against council signage, as the recognised zone covers part of the parkland rather than all of it.

What's there

The council-recognised off-leash space includes waste bins and accessible parking, with some agility equipment and patchy shade. Bring your own water for the dog, as shade and taps are limited.

Max: official off-leash dog beaches are limited around Bargara, so check the tide times before a beach walk to make sure there is enough sand left at high tide.

Getting there

The reserve runs along Fred Courtice Avenue with easy access from the main coastal road and usually plenty of parking. It is within reasonable walking distance of central Bargara accommodation and the caravan parks, so many visitors walk over.

If you want a fully enclosed run, the Mary Kinross Park Fenced Dog Park is the dedicated fenced option in Bargara. For coffee afterward, the Beach Mill under the surf life saving club sits opposite the park with ocean views and welcomes dogs in its outdoor areas.

When to go

Weekend mornings are busiest, along with late weekday afternoons after work. For a quieter visit, get there before 9am or head over late in the day. This is a good fit for social dogs that like a coastal run followed by a leash walk along the esplanade.
