Turtle Trail

The sealed Turtle Trail starts at Kellys Beach in Bargara and follows the coast past Mon Repos towards Burnett Heads, with volcanic rock and pocket beaches along the way. Dogs can walk the council sections on lead, but not the conservation park.

Lead rules

Bundaberg Regional Council manages the esplanade and coastal path, where dogs must be on a lead unless inside a signed off-leash park. Queensland Parks manages Mon Repos Conservation Park, where dogs are banned, along with some protected beach zones.

Plan your turnaround before the Mon Repos section.

The walk

The path is wide asphalt and concrete, following the Woongarra coast through seaside forest and past rocky outcrops. Sea breezes help on warm days.

Water and shade

Bubblers are along the foreshore and near the Bargara Turtle Park, and council bins line the esplanade. Shaded grass, sheltered seats and picnic tables sit beside the path.

Free street and beach parking runs along the Bargara Esplanade.

Make a day of it

Back in Bundaberg, let your dog off lead at Daph Geddes Park Fenced Dog Park or stop at River Cruz Cafe.

Mornings are cooler and quieter. The flat, sealed path suits dogs of any age.
