Byford House on the Scarp

Byford House on the Scarp is a whole four-bedroom, two-bathroom holiday home in Byford, at the foot of the Darling Scarp south-east of Perth. It takes dogs, which makes it a practical base for exploring the Perth Hills with a dog in tow rather than leaving them home.

The house allows up to two dogs under 10kg, and there's no extra pet fee. Because it's a full-house rental, your dogs get the whole property rather than one room, including a secure rear yard with a shaded patio and a large outdoor entertainment area with barbecue. As with any private rental, message the host when booking to confirm the two-dog, under-10kg rule still stands, and ask about yard fencing if your dogs are escape-minded.

Worth knowing

If your dog is over 10kg, this isn't the house for you, so don't try to sneak a big dog in. The listing address is on Araucaria Boulevard in the newer Byford Hills part of town, so the local dog park and walking trails are all within a few minutes' drive. Being on the scarp means snakes in warmer months and occasional 1080 bait notices in nearby bushland, so keep dogs on lead outside fenced areas.

Getting there and parking

Byford sits along the South Western Highway about 45 minutes from Perth's CBD. The house has driveway parking, and the Armadale train line runs into Perth if you want a car-free day.

Byford Bark Park on Larsen Road is a fully fenced park with separate large and small dog enclosures, an introduction-pen gating system, agility equipment and shade.
