Breamlea Caravan Park

Breamlea Caravan Park is a quiet, no-frills coastal park on Blackgate Road between Barwon Heads and Torquay, right by the beach and dune reserves. Dogs are welcome here, but only during a set winter window each year and only on specific booked sites, so this is a trip you plan around the calendar rather than a drop-in.

The dog season runs under the Barwon Coast pet policy from 1 May to the end of Victorian School Term 3, and the exact finish shifts slightly each year with the school calendar. Within that window, only designated pet-friendly sites take dogs and numbers are capped, so a late booking often misses out. Dogs are restricted to camping and caravan sites, not cabins or the amenity blocks, with a maximum of two per site. Each dog must be registered and vaccinated (C3), kept on a lead no longer than 3 metres whenever it is outside the van, tent or RV, and never left unattended at the site. Declare the dog when you book, because arriving without notice can mean refusal of entry. Outside the winter window, only registered assistance animals are permitted.

The vibe

This is a basic, nature-focused park rather than a resort stay. Sites are spacious, the amenities are clean, and there is a kids playground, but there are no dog-specific facilities, so bring your own bowl and supplies. Campfires are not permitted at Breamlea even during the dog season, an environmental restriction that differs from the winter campfire setups at other Barwon Coast parks.

Getting there

The park sits at 101 Blackgate Road, reached via Barwon Heads Road and Breamlea Road. Parking is at your booked site and the internal roads suit caravans and motorhomes. Barwon Heads and Torquay are both a short drive for supplies.

While you're out there

Breamlea Beach and the dune and coastal vegetation trails sit at the park's doorstep, though leash rules vary by zone, so check local signage before you unclip. For a longer coastal leg, the walk from Ocean Grove to Barwon Heads is a short drive east, and Bowlz in Barwon Heads is a handy dog-friendly refuel.
