ibis Styles Albany is a central hotel in the middle of town, and one of the few standard hotels on WA's south coast that takes dogs. The catch is booking: pet-friendly rooms exist but cannot be locked in through online booking engines, so a phone call decides whether your dog gets a bed here or you fall back to a caravan park.

Dogs at the hotel

Dogs of any size are accepted for an additional fee of AU$60 per pet, per stay, and food and water bowls are provided. Pets are not allowed on furniture or beds, cannot be left unattended in the room, and cannot be washed in the room's indoor shower, which matters after a wet beach session. Call the hotel directly on (08) 9841 1177 to request a pet-friendly room, since third-party sites and the standard booking engine do not surface them. The rooms themselves are conventional hotel rooms, some with kitchenettes, and guest reviews are mixed on dated rooms versus renovated ones, so it is worth asking for a newer room when you call.

Out and about in Albany

Albany's coastline does the heavy lifting. At Middleton Beach, dogs are welcome off lead on the small beach section just past the marina, though they are banned from the patrolled swimming stretch between Ellen Cove Jetty and Surfers Beach. Emu Point has designated dog stretches near the marina with calm, protected water. For a walk, the Ellen Cove Boardwalk from Middleton Beach along to the bluff is an on-lead classic with views over King George Sound, and the Lake Seppings loop is a flat birdlife-rich circuit, strictly on lead. Note that Torndirrup National Park prohibits dogs entirely, so plan the Gap and the Natural Bridge days as dog-free outings.

For coffee and a meal, Dome Cafe Albany is central and reliable, while Emu Point Cafe and The Squid Shack put you waterside on the dog end of the coast. For a secure run, the Banjo Paterson fenced dog park is a short drive north.
