Dôme Café - Albany

Dome Cafe occupies the beautifully restored old Albany Primary School building at 70 Albany Highway, and it welcomes dogs in its covered alfresco area. It is the reliable all-day option on the edge of town, an easy stop on the way in or out, and one of the few big-table cafes in Albany where a leashed dog is straightforward business.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor alfresco seating, which is covered for shade and light rain. Pets are not taken inside, and because this Dome is counter service you will need to head indoors to order, so keep one person at the table with the dog. Staff will usually bring a water bowl on request, but carrying a travel bowl is the sure thing.

The vibe and the menu

It runs the standard Dome menu, an extensive all-day breakfast and lunch list with poached eggs, a well-liked steak sandwich and carrot cake, plus some dairy-free and gluten-free options. The heritage schoolhouse setting gives it more character than the average franchise cafe. It is open daily from 6am to 5pm, which suits a feed outside the usual lunch rush.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Albany Highway at Centennial Park, a short drive or walk from the town centre, with parking generally available right outside. Centennial Park itself is close for a leg-stretch, and the Middleton Beach area is a short drive for a longer walk. Afterward, the beachfront verandah at Emu Point Cafe is the other classic dog-friendly stop in town, The Surfing Bean covers Middleton Beach coffee, and BIG4 Middleton Beach Holiday Park is a dog-friendly base if you are staying over.
