Waterloo Bay Hotel

The Waterloo Bay Hotel has been the big local of Wynnum for generations, a historic corner pub at 75 Berrima Street with one of the larger beer gardens on Brisbane's bayside. Unlike most footpath-only arrangements, dogs here get a designated grassed section of the garden, so it is a genuine sit-down lunch with the dog stretched out beside you.

The dog setup

The hotel's own FAQs confirm dogs are welcome in the Oyster Point grassed area of the beer garden. Take the side gate on Berrima Street and you skip the indoor bar altogether, which keeps things simple with a dog on lead. The space is shaded and open, water bowls are put out, and dogs must stay leashed and under control. On event days the garden fills, so carry your own bowl as backup.

Max: Use the Berrima Street side gate. It drops you straight onto the grass and keeps a leash-reactive dog clear of the main entry crowd.

Worth knowing

Food comes from the on-site bistro with pub classics such as steak, parmigiana and chicken wings, and the pub runs regular live music and events. There is accommodation on site if you are staying in the area. This is a busy, family-friendly local rather than a quiet corner, so it suits sociable dogs comfortable with kids, foot traffic and the occasional band.

Getting there and parking

Street parking is available on Berrima Street and the surrounding blocks, and Wynnum Central station is about 450 metres away for the train.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-leash run before lunch, the fenced area at Elanora Park is a short drive away, and Pepes Mexican is the other dog-friendly dinner table in the suburb.
