Absolute Thai

Absolute Thai is a long-running Thai restaurant at 10/89 Bay Terrace in central Wynnum, a couple of streets back from the bayside. Dogs join you at the alfresco tables on the Bay Terrace footpath, which makes it a workable dinner stop before or after a walk along the Wynnum foreshore.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the footpath tables out front; Queensland food safety rules keep them out of the indoor dining room. There are no dedicated dog bowls or pet menu here, so pack your own water bowl and a leash tether, and be honest about whether your dog settles on a busy main street, because Bay Terrace carries steady traffic. Staff are friendly to dogs at the tables.

Worth knowing

The kitchen leans towards well-made classics rather than anything flashy: Royal beef and red curries, soft shell crab, crispy pork, satay chicken and coconut rice are the dishes that come up again and again, with sticky rice for dessert. It is a bring-your-own sort of room with a long local history, so expect a neighbourhood crowd rather than a destination restaurant.

Getting there and parking

Bay Terrace is the main strip through Wynnum, with Wynnum Central station at the northern end and street parking along the terrace. Hours split across two sessions: lunch runs 11:30am to 2:30pm Monday to Friday, and dinner runs 5pm to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday.
