The Boulevard Cafe on the lake

The Boulevard Cafe on the Lake is a licensed cafe-restaurant at 41 Bartel Boulevard in Encounter Bay, sitting right on the coastal walking path with the lake on one side and the short climb to The Bluff nearby. The menu runs eggs benedict, Taiwanese fried chicken and chicken waffles on local South Australian produce, and it is one of the genuinely dog-equipped stops on this coast: water bowls out, dog treats on the menu and a proper shaded patio for dogs.

The dog setup

Dogs join you on the covered, shaded outdoor patio, which opens straight off the walking path, so you can walk in from the Victor Harbor township side or down from The Bluff without touching a car park. Water bowls are provided, and the kitchen sells dogachinos and dog snacks, which few cafes on the Fleurieu bother with. The indoor dining room stays for diners without dogs, so aim for the patio from the start.

Pepsi: a dogachino at a shady table right off the beach path is a fair reward for a Bluff walk, but check the council signs before any beach detour on the way.

Worth knowing

The cafe opens from 8am daily, closing mid afternoon, so it is a breakfast-and-lunch venue rather than a dinner one. Fine-weather weekends pull a crowd; weekday mornings are the quiet sitting. Nearby dog rules are worth knowing before you walk in: Petrel Cove is on-lead at all times with a 2 metre leash limit, the foreshore from The Bluff toward Chiton Rocks runs timed off-lead hours, and dogs are kept out of the dunes for Hooded Plover nesting.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Bartel Boulevard and the side streets off it. The position is the draw: the coastal path passes the door, linking the township to the Rosetta Head walk, so the cafe slots into a loop rather than needing a dedicated drive.

Close by with the dogs
