Tanoshi Sushi & Tea House

Tanoshi Sushi & Tea House is a compact Japanese kitchen at Shop 3/381 Esplanade, Torquay, on the Hervey Bay beachfront strip near the Denmans Camp Road corner. It does sushi, sashimi, udon and bubble tea, and dogs are welcome at the footpath seating out the front, which makes it a natural stop mid-walk along the foreshore.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor footpath tables along the beach strip, keeping your dog with you while you eat. It is a small venue, so the outdoor seats fill quickly at lunch, and a settled dog on lead beside the foreshore path is the order of the day. Bring your own water bowl because the shopfront setup does not run to one, and if you are visiting at a quiet time it is worth confirming the outdoor seating is open before you arrive.

What to eat

The kitchen cuts fresh-to-order sashimi, with tuna and mixed platters among the regulars, and aburi salmon rolls get a run of praise. Cooked options cover karaage chicken, tempura vegetables, fried oysters, fish cakes and a wagyu beef udon, and the bubble tea keeps the younger half of the table happy. Lunch service runs from 11:30am Tuesday through Sunday, with the shop closed Mondays; evening service has run on selected nights, so check the online ordering page for the current hours before planning dinner there.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking is available through the surrounding Esplanade blocks, usually within a short flat walk of the shopfront. Being right on the beach strip, it is easy to fold into any foreshore walk without a dedicated detour.

Close by with the dogs

Torquay Beach sits directly across the road, and the foreshore pathway runs along the front with a mix of on-lead and leash-free sections, so check the council signs before unclipping.
