The Bistro at Maleny Hotel is the bistro side of a historic country pub at 6 Bunya Street, at the entry to town. The pull for dog owners is a leafy beer garden where dogs are welcome, so you can sit out with a counter meal while the dog settles on the grass.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on-leash in the outdoor beer garden, reached via the outdoor access points so you skip the indoor bar and dining rooms. The garden runs on picnic tables and casual seating under shade. Bring your own water bowl, as one is not guaranteed.

Good to know. It is a classic hinterland pub menu, steaks, schnitzels and a well-liked veggie burger, with a full bar and beers on tap. Open seven days, lunch from 11:30am and dinner from 5pm, with all-day dining on weekends.

Getting there. Free street parking runs along Bunya Street and there is a free on-site car park, with bike parking at the rear next to the beer garden.

Nearby with the dogs. The Obi Obi boardwalk is a short on-leash walk nearby, and Gardners Falls is a few minutes' drive for a creek-side leg stretch. Mary Cairncross is close but keeps dogs off its rainforest trails.

Best for a relaxed weekend lunch in the garden before the dinner crowd arrives.
