The Bistro at Maleny Hotel

The Bistro at Maleny Hotel is the bistro side of a historic country hotel at 6 Bunya Street, right at the entry to town. The pull for dog owners is a leafy beer garden where dogs are welcome on a lead, so you can work through a proper pub menu while your dog settles on the grass beside you.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on-lead in the outdoor beer garden, reached via the outdoor access points so you skip the indoor bar and dining rooms entirely. Seating runs to picnic tables and casual settings under shade, and a well-settled dog fits the room easily. Bring your own water bowl, as one is not guaranteed on site.

The vibe

It is a classic hinterland pub menu: rump steak, lamb shank, schnitzels and a well-liked veggie burger, with a full bar, beers on tap and cocktails. The bistro serves lunch and dinner seven days, with all-day dining on weekends, and the beer garden bar opens from mid-morning. The crowd is a mix of locals and hinterland visitors, and it fills ahead of the dinner rush on weekends, so a relaxed lunch in the garden is the easy mode.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking runs along Bunya Street and there is a free on-site car park, with bike parking at the rear next to the beer garden. Maleny sits on the Blackall Range about 25 minutes from Landsborough and the Sunshine Coast, so plan the drive up the range.

Close by with the dogs

The Obi Obi boardwalk is a short on-lead walk from town, and The Maleny Trail links the area's walking routes. Gardners Falls is a few minutes' drive for a creek-side leg stretch. Note that Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve keeps dogs off its rainforest tracks, so it is not an option. For other meals, King Ludwigs welcomes dogs at its back garden tables and The Barrel at Clouds Vineyard takes dogs at outdoor tables, while the Mapleton Public House is the next pub up the range.
