Elsewhere at SAM is the cafe and restaurant on the ground floor of the Shepparton Art Museum, overlooking Victoria Park Lake. The lake-edge setting is the reason to bring the dog, it sits right on the walking paths around the water.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, the paved courtyard and footpath area by the entrance, not inside the restaurant (service dogs excepted). The outdoor space is paved and partly covered, with lake views. Water is often put out, but bring your own bowl. As cultural-precinct venues can change their rules, confirm dog seating when you arrive.

Good to know. The big draw is the outlook over the lake, paired with local produce, brunch plates, house-made cakes, and good coffee. Reviewers also rate the okonomiyaki, pork sisig, and build-your-own bowls.

Getting there. At the SAM building on Welsford Street, with ample free parking in the museum car park off Welsford Street, and walking paths linking to the CBD.

Nearby with the dogs. Victoria Park Lake's paved loop is right outside for an on-leash walk, and the Goulburn River riverside trails are a short drive for something longer.
