Heydays

Heydays is the casual pizzeria inside the Sandhurst Club at 75 Sandhurst Boulevard, sitting against the golf course on Melbourne's outer south-east. The kitchen covers wood-fired pizzas, pasta, burgers and a full breakfast and brunch list, and the room spills onto an outdoor courtyard where dogs are welcome. Sunday afternoons often bring live music sessions out on the green, and the whole setup is walk-in only.

The dog setup

Dogs join you in the outdoor courtyard and dining areas; indoors stays dog-free. Keep your dog leashed and settled at the table, and bring your own water bowl because none is advertised as standard. The courtyard is family territory on weekends, so an edge table away from the kids' traffic is the calm spot for a dog. Staff are used to canine visitors, and the flat access from the car park makes arrival easy for older dogs.

Worth knowing

Hours run 7am to 4pm Sunday to Thursday and 7am to 8pm Friday and Saturday, with a happy hour from 4pm to 6pm on the late nights. The club's own pages note that bookings are no longer taken, so turn up and take your chances on the courtyard; a weekday lunch is the safe bet for a table with a dog, while Friday and Saturday evenings build a crowd around the heaters and live music.

Getting there and parking

The Sandhurst Club car park is large and free, directly outside the venue, and the path from parking to the courtyard is flat and easy. Sandhurst sits just off the EastLink end of the Mornington Peninsula Freeway, so it works as a stop between Frankston and the bayside suburbs.

Close by with the dogs

For a proper run before pizza, Sandfield Reserve Fenced Dog Park in Carrum Downs is a short drive away, and Keast Park Off Leash Dog Beach adds a bay swim to the loop. On the coffee side, Frankie's Coffee and Eats covers the Carrum Downs morning trade.
