Omurice House

Omurice House is a casual Japanese kitchen at 89A Atherton Road, Oakleigh, built around one signature: omurice, the silky egg omelette folded over rice. Versions run from chicken katsu and beef medallion to karaage chicken, with Malaysian curry influences and Greek-adjacent neighbours on one of Melbourne's busiest food strips. It is listed as pet-friendly, with dogs taken at the footpath tables out front.

The dog setup

Dogs sit at the outdoor footpath seating along Atherton Road, not inside the main dining room. The alfresco row is limited and can feel tight when the strip is humming, so it best suits a small-to-medium dog that settles close to the table while pedestrians pass. Staff have a welcoming reputation and will often bring out a water bowl, but nothing is guaranteed, so pack your own. On a good day it is one of the easier quality dinners in the east to take a dog along to.

Worth knowing

Beyond the omurice, the kitchen does katsu pork, Malaysian curry and karaage chicken, and the coffee and presentation draw regular praise. Hours run twice daily: 8am to 3pm and again 5pm to 10pm Monday and Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 3pm and 5pm to 10pm Sunday, with Tuesdays closed. It is comfort food in modest portions of chaos on a busy strip, so a weeknight evening is the calmest window.

Getting there and parking

It is a short walk from Oakleigh railway station, which takes the parking question out of the equation entirely. If you drive, street parking on Atherton Road is often limited, and the Eaton Mall carpark nearby is the easy fallback.

For the off-lead stretch, Scotchmans Run Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is a short drive away, with Jack Edwards Reserve another option.
