The Foreshore

The Foreshore sits right on Casuarina Drive in Nightcliff, open daily from 7am to 10pm and built around the two things the Top End does best: big breakfasts and water-front sunsets. Eggs benedict and acai bowls start the day, the seafood plate (battered local fish, chargrilled prawns, scallops, baby squid) carries lunch, and live music runs Thursday to Sunday from 6pm. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio and front lawn, which makes this one of the easier sunset venues in Darwin to bring the lead.

The dog setup

Dogs stay outside: the patio and grassed area are theirs, the indoor dining room is not. Water bowls are generally put out, and the setup is genuinely popular, so on busy nights the lawn fills with locals after their coastal walk. Reviews of the pet policy have varied over the years, so it is worth confirming with staff on arrival, especially if you want a patio table with room for a dog to settle during a music session.

The walk either side

The Nightcliff foreshore path runs straight past the restaurant along the clifftop toward the jetty, and the City of Darwin allows dogs off-lead on designated open stretches of the foreshore while requiring a lead no longer than two metres elsewhere. Dogs under effective control is the standing rule, and off-lead does not extend to playgrounds, active BBQ areas or the Nightcliff markets while they run. One Territory-specific caution: keep dogs well back from the water and mudflats, because saltwater crocodiles are a real risk on Top End coastlines.

Getting there and parking

The address is 259 Casuarina Drive, Nightcliff, next to the pool. Parking lines Casuarina Drive near the foreshore, and coming from the Darwin side the whole drive hugs the coast. Sunset sessions get busy fast, so book ahead for weekend evenings rather than rolling up at golden hour.

Close by with the dogs

If the patio is full, Fresh Point Cafe on Progress Drive is the neighbourhood's other dog-friendly breakfast stop. For a proper fenced run, Bundilla Park in Fannie Bay is a short drive, and Darwin Ski Club does its own version of sunset-over-the-water with the dog on the lawns.
