Darwin Ski Club

Darwin Ski Club occupies a front-row position on Conacher Street, Fannie Bay, with an unbroken outlook over the water, and it is a Top End institution for sunset beers. For dog owners it works well: the alfresco and grassed outdoor areas are open to leashed dogs, the crowd is laid-back and family-friendly, and the club runs 12pm to 10pm Monday to Friday with an 11am start on weekends.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on lead across the expansive alfresco deck and the grassed lawn down toward the water, but not inside the bistro or bar. Staff are generally relaxed about a well-behaved dog under the table. Water bowls are not guaranteed, so pack your own. The lawn fills quickly in the half hour before sunset, particularly Friday and Sunday evenings, so arrive early enough to claim a spot with room for your dog.

From the kitchen and the Bali Bar

The food is hearty Australian pub fare with a seafood lean: beef cheeks and chicken parmi are regular orders, alongside fresh catches and daily specials. Kitchen hours run lunch 12pm to 2:30pm with a limited menu through the afternoon, then dinner from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. The Bali Bar on the waterfront lawn covers cold beer, wine and tropical cocktails, and weekend live music is a fixture. Members get a ten percent discount at the bar and kitchen.

Getting there

The club sits on the Fannie Bay foreshore strip, with free parking on-site and along Conacher Street. Around sunset and on weekends the bayside parking tightens up, so build in a few minutes. The foreshore path runs right past the club for an on-lead stroll, and under City of Darwin rules any dog within ten metres of a shared path must be on a secured lead.

Close by with the dogs

The Bundilla Fenced Dog Park in Fannie Bay is the local off-lead run, and Bayview Dog Park is another council option across the bay. Note that East Point Reserve next door is strictly dog-free to protect its wildlife, so keep foreshore walks on the Fannie Bay side.
