BoscoNero Italian

BoscoNero Italian is a neighbourhood Italian restaurant and bar on the Blackwood Street dining strip in Mitchelton, right across from the train station. It does proper Italian food with a serious cocktail and wine list, and the street-facing footpath tables are where dogs are welcome.

The dog setup

Dogs sit at the outdoor footpath seating; the indoor dining room is for people only. Keep your dog leashed and settled under or beside the table so staff and other diners can get past. Water bowls are usually out along the pet-friendly strip, but carry your own travel bowl in case none is free when you arrive. Footpath seating means foot traffic passes close by, so a shorter leash and a calm sit-stay make the meal easier for everyone.

Worth knowing

The kitchen covers share plates through to pasta and pizza: arancini balls, porchetta pizza, lamb ragu, truffle mushroom gnocchi and prawn and crab ravioli, with gluten-free pizza available. Tiramisu is the dessert people order, and the chocolate espresso martini gets its share of mentions. It opens Wednesday to Sunday from 11:30am for lunch and dinner, closed Monday and Tuesday.

Getting there and parking

BoscoNero is at 9/48 Blackwood Street. Free street parking runs along Blackwood Street with a free public car park nearby, and the restaurant is directly opposite Mitchelton station on the Ferny Grove line, which makes it an easy train trip with the dog.

Close by with the dogs

Kedron Brook's corridor runs close by, and Bradbury Park Fenced Dog Park at Kedron is a short drive away for an off-leash run before or after dinner. Teralba Park at Everton Park is another fenced option on the brook, and Blackwood Street itself is an easy on-lead stroll between visits.
