The Birdhouse (Birdies Woodfired Kitchen)

The Birdhouse, home of Birdies Woodfired Kitchen, is a family-run wood-fired restaurant at 44 Barossa Drive, Minchinbury, with a strong local following for smoky pizzas and Mediterranean-leaning plates. Dogs are welcome out front, and unlike a lot of outdoor setups here they get full table service.

The dog setup

The undercover outdoor dining area at the front is the dog-friendly zone, and it runs on the same table service as the main room, so nobody has to stand at a counter while the dog waits. Keep your dog leashed and settled beside the table. Water bowls on request are not confirmed, so bring your own to be safe. The cover means the tables work year round rather than only on dry evenings.

On the plate

The wood-fired oven drives the menu: pizzas, wood-fired pork riblets and wagyu tartare, backed by duck fat potatoes, corn ribs and baked brie, with a baklava cheesecake and a serious mocktail list to finish. It is popular - book ahead on weekends or expect a wait. Trading is lunch-focused, opening around 11:30am Wednesday to Friday and from 9am on weekends, with Monday and Tuesday closed.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-leash run, the Warrigal Dog Run at Bungarribee Park is the standout within about 10 to 15 minutes, a big fully fenced space with separate areas for confident and timid dogs plus water stations. Closer in, the May Cowpe Reserve dog park at Rooty Hill is a quick option. If a coffee is part of the plan, Soulte Minchinbury is nearby.
