May Cowpe Reserve Dog Park

May Cowpe Reserve is a large, open sports reserve on North Parade in Rooty Hill, with a 24/7 off-leash area that gives dogs plenty of room to run across its sprawling green space.

The rules. The off-leash area operates 24 hours a day, but your dog needs to be under effective voice or hand control at all times, and you must carry a leash with you in case you need it. Restricted or dangerous breeds are not permitted off-leash here. Pick up after your dog straight away, and if a junior sport training session or match is using the fields, give that area a miss and stick to the open space.

What's there. There is a playground on-site and some shaded areas under trees for a break, plus a free on-site car park next to the fields. The reserve is largely open and unfenced, so it suits dogs with solid recall rather than escape artists. There are no dog water taps or bag dispensers on-site, so bring your own water bowl and poo bags.

Getting there. May Cowpe Reserve is at 237-239 North Parade, Rooty Hill, with free parking right next to the fields. It is within walking distance of Rooty Hill railway station on the Western Line, and local bus routes run along the surrounding streets.

Nearby with the dogs. TNB Cafe in the Rooty Hill town centre is dog-friendly at its outdoor tables and makes an easy stop before or after a run around the reserve. The wider Mount Druitt area also has a handful of pet-friendly motels along the Great Western Highway.

When to go. Weekday mornings are quietest, with the reserve busier from late afternoon and on weekends as locals finish work or school. If organised sport is on, expect the fields themselves to be off-limits, so plan around the open lawn instead. Good for confident, well-recalled dogs who want space to properly stretch their legs.
