VILLAGE CAFE & BURGERS

Village Cafe & Burgers is a casual local favourite at 7/44 Baltimore Parade in Merriwa, north of Perth, doing burgers, woodfire pizza and coffee from 7am to 8pm, seven days. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, which makes it an easy stop in Perth's northern suburbs with the dog in tow.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor seating around the cafe; the indoor dining room stays for people, as with most venues of this size. Keep your dog leashed and settled beside the table. Bring your own water bowl, because one on site is not guaranteed, and pick a shaded table if you are coming in the morning: the good spots go quickly once the locals arrive.

Pepsi: Grab an outdoor table early for a lazy brunch. The shaded spots fill first, and a dog underfoot in the sun is nobody's friend.

Worth knowing

The kitchen runs an all-day menu: bacon pancakes, a proper Aussie burger with beetroot and egg, the loaded Call It What You Want burger with fried chicken and a fried egg, chicken parmi and woodfire pizza, plus monster milkshakes and locally roasted coffee. Portions are generous, and the kitchen handles breakfast through to dinner without changing gear.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in the Merriwa Shopping Centre complex on Baltimore Parade, with parking outside the shops, so arriving with the dog in the car is straightforward. Connolly and Quinns Rocks stations on the Yanchep line are the nearest rail options if you are coming up from Perth.

Close by with the dogs

Under the City of Wanneroo's dog exercise guidelines, most local reserves are off-leash unless signed otherwise, so Addison Park and Dalvick Park nearby both work for a run before breakfast. Quinns Rocks dog beach is a short drive up the coast for a proper swim, and Heath Dog Park at Eglinton is the nearest fully fenced option.
