staġuni runs inside the restored Marananga Schoolhouse at 457 Seppeltsfield Road, where chef Clare Falzon cooks a seasonal, hyper-local South Australian menu over fire. It took out Gourmet Traveller's Best Destination Dining in 2025, and the good news for dog owners is that the pebbled outdoor terrace and garden seating are where dogs are welcome, so a serious Barossa lunch does not mean leaving the dog at the cabin.

The dog setup

Dogs sit outside on the terrace and in the garden; the refined indoor dining room in the stone-walled schoolhouse is for humans. Keep leads on and your dog settled at your feet, especially when the terrace is full. Book ahead and mention the dog when you do, because walk-ins on a busy Saturday can end up indoors by necessity, and that is no use to you. Lunch on a mild day is the natural fit for the outdoor tables.

The vibe

The menu is small plates built for sharing: anchovy fritters, lamb pie, barramundi and a peanut butter mousse to finish, alongside a strong Barossa-weighted wine list. Opening hours run midday to 5pm Friday through Monday, with a Thursday dinner service from 6pm to 9pm and Tuesdays and Wednesdays closed. Service is relaxed and unhurried, which suits a dog dozing under the table.

Getting there and parking

The schoolhouse precinct sits on Seppeltsfield Road between Tanunda and the Seppeltsfield estate, about 10 minutes from Nuriootpa. Parking is at the rear of the precinct, which shares space with a working pottery studio and a small wine collective, so bays can tighten on weekends. The schoolhouse is a short drive from the Nuriootpa Fenced Dog Park if you want a run first.

Close by with the dogs

The Barossa is generous with leashed dogs at cellar doors: Two Hands Wines hosts dogs on its Marananga grounds, Seppeltsfield Wines is just up the road, and FINO at Seppeltsfield takes well-behaved dogs on its terrace by arrangement.

Pepsi: Lamb pie on the terrace, the dog asleep on the pebbles, nobody checking their watch. That is a Barossa lunch.
