Mudbar Restaurant Launceston

A waterfront fixture on the Seaport boardwalk, Mudbar is one of Launceston's easier dog-friendly meals out: the alfresco tables sit right on the marina, and a leashed, settled dog is welcome beside you while you eat.

The dog setup. Dogs join you in the outdoor alfresco area facing the Tamar, not inside the dining room. Staff are used to dogs and will usually bring a water bowl, but pack a collapsible one to be safe. Keep your dog leashed and tucked under the table, the boardwalk gets foot traffic.

Good to know. This is a sit-down restaurant rather than a grab-a-coffee stop, so it suits a relaxed lunch or early dinner over a quick visit. The kitchen leans paddock-to-plate, with their own Whitehills lamb, Tasmanian seafood and the well-known Mudbar fat chips. Bookings are wise at peak times.

Getting there. Address is 28 Seaport Boulevard. There is a large paid car park immediately beside the Seaport precinct, and it is a flat 10 to 15 minute walk from the CBD across the Tamar footbridge.

Nearby with the dogs. The Seaport boardwalk runs right past the door for a pre or post-meal stroll, and the flat Tamar River walkway carries on from there. Cataract Gorge (on-leash) is a short drive for a longer outing.

When to go. Sunny lunchtimes and early evenings are the pick for the outdoor tables. Arrive ahead of the dinner rush if you want a quieter spot with room for the dog.
