Souvla & Grill

Souvla & Grill is a casual Greek eatery at 94 Terralong Street in central Kiama, built around charcoal-grilled meats, yiros and souvlaki. It is a quick, easygoing feed rather than a long dinner, and the alfresco tables out front on the main street take dogs, which slots it neatly into a coastal day trip with the dog in tow.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor alfresco area at the front, on lead, while the indoor room stays people only. Water bowls turn up sometimes but are not guaranteed, so pack your own collapsible one. Terralong Street carries steady foot traffic and the tables sit right in it, so this suits a dog that settles calmly around movement, prams and other walkers.

Max: order the lamb souvlaki, take it as takeaway, and eat it on the harbour grass with the dog sprawled out. Everyone wins.

Worth knowing

The kitchen runs from 10:30am daily, closing at 7pm Monday to Wednesday and Sunday, and 8pm Thursday to Saturday. Charcoal-grilled chicken and lamb are the anchors of the menu, with Greek salads and generous chip serves, and the service is quick enough to make it a genuine lunch stop rather than a booking-and-wait affair. Outside the weekend dinner peak it is at its quietest for a settling-in dog.

Getting there and parking

On-street parking out front on Terralong Street is busy in season, so the public car parks off Collins Street or near Kiama Harbour are the easier fallback. Everything is walkable: the harbour, the blowhole walk and the town centre are all within a few minutes on foot.

Close by with the dogs

For an on-lead coastal loop, Loves Bay via Kiama Blowholes starts close by, and Diggies Kiama covers breakfast on the harbour. Fillmore's is another main-street table if you are back the next day.
