Short Black Coffee is a busy, no-fuss cafe at 88 Terralong Street, right on Kiama's main street. It is built for a quick, reliable coffee and a baked treat rather than a long sit-down, and the footpath tables make it workable with a dog.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables on the footpath out front. Indoors is service dogs only. The catch is the sidewalk tables sit close together and the foot traffic is constant, so this suits a settled, well-socialised dog more than a nervous one. Bring your own water bowl.

Known for. Dependable coffee and a strong cabinet, with banana bread, loaded cookies and Mars Bar slice among the regular picks, plus stacked toasties and banana split waffles for brunch.

Getting there and parking. It is in the heart of the Kiama CBD on Terralong Street. Kerbside parking out front is handy but busy. For an easier run, the streets one block back on Manning Street, or the public car parks near Kiama Library, are usually quieter.

Nearby with the dogs. Black Beach Park is a short walk for a stretch, and the Kiama Coastal Walk is easy to reach from the nearby streets. Bombo Beach to the north has off-lead times, so check the council signage there before unclipping.

Best as a grab-and-go on the way to the water. Quietest first thing before the main-street crowd builds.
