Angel's House

Angel's House is an intimate French bistro run by brothers from Provence, set in a 19th-century heritage building at 24 Essex Street in Fremantle's West End. It is a proper sit-down, candlelit sort of place, so the dog plan is different from a beachside pub: leashed dogs are welcome in the outdoor garden and verandah seating, and an early booking with a note about your pup gets you set up properly.

The dog setup

Dogs stay outside with you in the outdoor dining zones, on leash and beside the table; only assistance dogs come indoors. The garden and verandah are small and charming rather than sprawling, which suits a calm, settled dog far better than a fidgety one. Staff are friendly and can usually arrange a water bowl on request, though there are no dog treats on offer. The few outdoor tables are at their quietest at lunch or an early weeknight sitting.

From the kitchen

The menu is classic French with a Mediterranean streak: escargot, French onion soup, cheese souffle, beef bourguignon, rib eye and barramundi, with riz au lait to finish. Dinner runs 5pm to 10pm Monday, Thursday to Saturday, and Sunday adds a 12pm to 2:30pm lunch sitting. Tuesday and Wednesday it is closed. Reservations are strongly recommended, and groups over seven need to contact the restaurant directly.

Getting there

Essex Street sits in the historic West End, a short walk from the town centre and Bathers Beach. Street parking on Essex Street and along Marine Terrace exists but is limited, so arrive ahead of your booking to land a spot close by.

Close by with the dogs

Bathers Beach itself is on-lead and restricted rather than an off-leash run under City of Fremantle rules. For a proper off-leash stretch, the South Beach Dog Off Leash Area is the designated spot, and Clancy's Fish Pub is the famously relaxed dog-friendly table if you want a more casual night.
