Ozmosis Café Trattoria Bar

Ozmosis is the all-day breakfast and Italian-leaning trattoria on Collins Avenue in Edge Hill, a few minutes' stroll from the Cairns Botanic Gardens. It opens early, 6:30am on weekdays, and runs through to 9pm from Wednesday to Sunday, with Monday and Tuesday winding up at 2pm. It is one of Cairns' most reliably dog-friendly tables: the alfresco and footpath seating regularly fills with patrons and their dogs, and the kitchen covers acaí bowls, eggs benedict and arancini with gluten free and vegan options alongside.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor and alfresco areas, including the footpath tables, and staff are used to handing out water bowls. The indoor dining room is off limits to pets under food safety rules, so plan on an outside table. The strip gets genuinely busy at weekend breakfast, so keep your dog leashed and settled at your feet; arriving early on a weekday is the easiest way to get space.

The vibe

This is a local institution rather than a destination cafe: community-minded, family-friendly and known for catering well to dietary requirements, which makes it an easy group meeting spot. The Italian side of the menu kicks in at lunch and dinner, with happy hour in the evening for those lingering longer.

Getting there and a walk first

Ozmosis is at 1/116 Collins Avenue, Edge Hill. Street parking runs along Collins Avenue but tightens up on weekends and weekday mornings. Access to the outdoor tables is flat and straightforward. Pair the visit with a walk through the nearby Bunny Jarrett Park dog off leash area before breakfast, or let the dogs settle in the shaded gardens after.
