Touch Park Fenced Dog Park sits on Aeroglen Drive in Aeroglen, just north of Cairns Airport, and gives dogs a fully fenced, secure space to run off-leash any time of day. The park is open 24/7, with a double-gate entry so dogs cannot slip out while you're arriving or leaving.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash inside the fenced area but must be leashed anywhere outside it. Dangerous or menacing dogs are not permitted, under Cairns Regional Council rules. Owners are expected to keep dogs under voice control and within sight at all times.

What's there. Inside the fence there's open grass, shade trees and some shaded seating, plus doggy bag dispensers and bins, though it's worth bringing your own spares. Public toilets and a separate shaded picnic shelter with tables sit just outside the fenced zone.

Getting there. Street parking is available along Aeroglen Drive next to the sporting fields. Sunbus services run along nearby Sheridan Street and Captain Cook Highway, a short walk from the park.

The park backs onto a mangrove-lined creek, so mosquitoes and midges can be thick around dawn and dusk. Pack repellent if you're visiting early or late.

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quietest times to visit, while evenings from about 4:30pm and weekend mornings draw the after-work and weekend crowd. After heavy tropical rain the grass can turn soft and muddy, so plan for that if a downpour has just been through.
