Touch Park Fenced Dog Park

Touch Park Fenced Dog Park sits on Aeroglen Drive between the Cairns Airport flight path and a mangrove-lined creek, and it gives local dogs something surprisingly hard to find in the northern suburbs: a fully fenced, double-gated run that is open around the clock.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies strictly inside the fence; dogs stay on a standard leash everywhere else in Touch Park, including the walk through from the sporting fields. Entry is via a double-gate airlock, so there is no dash-for-freedom moment while you clip leads off.

Inside there is open grass, shade trees and shaded seating, plus doggy bag dispensers and bins, though spares are worth carrying. Cairns Regional Council rules apply: dangerous or menacing dogs are barred, and owners keep dogs under voice control and within sight at all times. The enclosure is a single shared run rather than a split large and small dog layout, so gauge the crowd before letting a nervous dog off.

Worth knowing

The creek at the back of the park looks inviting but breeds mosquitoes and midges that are thickest around dawn and dusk, so pack repellent for early or late visits. After heavy tropical rain the grass goes soft and muddy, and it takes a dry spell to firm up again. Planes pass overhead regularly but most dogs settle within a visit or two.

Max: go early on a weekday before the after-work crowd lands, and bring your own bags in case the dispenser is empty.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Aeroglen Drive beside the sports fields. Sunbus services on nearby Sheridan Street and the Captain Cook Highway leave a short walk, which is unusual for a suburban dog park. Public toilets and a shaded picnic shelter with tables sit just outside the fence.
