Dogs on lead in the park (Cairns Regional Council); do not take dogs on the informal track toward Mount Whitfield.
Duplock Park on Aeroglen Drive is a shady green park at the foot of the Mount Whitfield ranges, with the rainforest right behind it. Dogs are welcome on lead for a short stroll.
What's here
Well-kept concrete paths loop through open lawn under big mature trees, so there is plenty of shade. It is a short walk, not a trek.
Lead rules
Cairns Regional Council requires dogs on lead in this park. Keep dogs away from any playground equipment.
An informal dirt track leaves the back of the park toward the mountain. Skip it with the dog, because the official conservation tracks on Mount Whitfield do not allow dogs.
Max: The rainforest track looks tempting. Dogs are not allowed up there, so stay in the park.
Make a day of it
For an off-lead run, Touch Park Fenced Dog Park is just along the road. Then grab a coffee at Sipping Duck Coffee Roasters.
Cairns afternoons get steamy, so go early and bring water for the dog.
