Sesame Kitchen

Sesame Kitchen is a small Asian-inspired cafe, bakery and coffee bar at 130 Wellington Road in East Brisbane, baking daily and turning out an Asian-fusion brunch menu that rates near the top of the suburb. The dog appeal is the outdoor seating and a genuinely welcoming, pet-aware crew; come for the food and bring your own bowl.

The dog setup

Dogs on a lead join you at the outdoor tables; treat inside as people only, as with most working kitchens of this size. The outdoor space is compact, so tuck your dog in beside your chair rather than leaving the lead stretched across the walkway. Water service for dogs is not confirmed, so pack a collapsible bowl and use your coffee order as the excuse to linger.

Worth knowing

The menu runs from the Sesame Big Brekky Platter and avocado with coconut ricotta on sourdough to dumpling plates: six pork dumplings with sesame soy ginger dressing, or fried siu mai with chilli dressing, plus healthy bibimbap bowls. The bakery cabinet is the other half of the reputation, with fresh savoury and sweet goods, cheesecakes and a matcha milkshake that gets ordered a lot. Hours are 6:30am to 2pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 2:30pm weekends, phone (07) 3523 3983. It is a small room and it stays busy, so an early table is the calm option with a dog.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Wellington Road in East Brisbane with street parking generally available on the surrounding residential streets. It folds easily into a morning walk, with the river not far off.

Close by with the dogs

Raymond Park Fenced Dog Park and Woolloongabba Rotary Park are both close for an off-lead run before brunch, and if you would rather walk than fetch, the Four Bridges Walk starts across the river at Kangaroo Point.
