Bar Cooper’s

Bar Cooper's is a neighbourhood bar and bistro on Chatsworth Road in Coorparoo, a warm-timber room built for evening drinks and weekend bites, with an indoor bistro for the moody nights and a lighter, airy courtyard out the side. The courtyard is where dogs go: it is explicitly an outdoor-only pet policy, and on a Brisbane afternoon the courtyard is where you would want to be anyway. Hours run from 5pm Wednesday and Thursday, midday Friday through Saturday, and midday to 4pm Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor courtyard, leashed and settled at your feet or under the table. Indoor seating is not available to dogs. Water is not guaranteed to be sitting out, so bring a collapsible bowl and the staff can usually fill it on request. The courtyard is compact rather than sprawling, so a dog that stays put suits the room better than one that patrols.

Worth knowing

The drinks list is the draw: an extensive spritz and margarita lineup over a short, food-friendly bistro menu. The kitchen's reputation is for generous plates such as the chicken schnitzel roll, steak and flatbreads, with weekend food service running Friday to Sunday from midday. Since midweek trade is drinks-focused from 5pm, the reliable dog-friendly window with full food service is a Friday or Saturday afternoon, or Sunday lunch before the 4pm close. Book ahead online for weekend courtyard tables.

Getting there and parking

The bar sits on Chatsworth Road in the Coorparoo shop strip, with street parking on Chatsworth Road and the side streets such as Wensley Street. It is walkable for much of Coorparoo, and the Coorparoo train station and the 216 and 224 bus routes along Old Cleveland Road put it in easy reach without a car.

While you're out there

Make it a proper outing by walking the dog first: Wembley Park's fenced dog park is the suburb's off-lead option, and Whites Hill Reserve's fenced dog park is the bigger run next suburb over. For a coffee stop beforehand, Cafe and Bar on Whites Hill welcomes dogs at its outdoor tables.
