Coolum Beach Bar

Coolum Beach Bar sits directly across from the sand on David Low Way, a modern beachfront venue with ocean views from the verandah that runs from breakfast through to dinner. It is openly dog-friendly out on the patio, which makes it one of the easiest post-beach meals on the Sunshine Coast to share with your dog.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, specifically the breezy verandah and patio that look over the beach, with space for a dog to lie beside your table. Staff along this strip are used to dogs, but the venue does not reliably put water bowls out, so a collapsible bowl in the car is worth the packing. Indoor tables are people-only.

The vibe

Expect a strong cocktail and beer list, espresso martinis that get regular mentions, and a broad modern-Australian menu covering everything from satay chicken and fish tacos to tapas and poke bowls. It is lively rather than quiet, especially on weekends, and suits dogs that settle well around activity. Hours run from about 6:30am into the evening, winding up a little earlier on Sundays.

Pepsi: I kept my nose pointed at the fish tacos and it worked. Stay loose, stare hopefully, and the beachfront patio pays off.

Getting there and parking

The address is 1768 David Low Way, opposite the beach. Free street parking runs along David Low Way and the side streets, but it tightens up on weekend mornings and summer evenings, so arrive early for a patio table in season.

Close by with the dogs

The Coolum coastal foreshore pathway runs right out front for an on-leash warm-up walk, and the Stumers Creek dog off-leash area is a short drive north if your dog needs a proper run before lunch. The Coolum Beach off-leash dog beach covers the same stretch of sand, and the Coolum to Point Arkwright foreshore trail makes a longer walk of it. If you would rather stay in the village, Coolum Corner on Birtwill Street is another dog-friendly coffee stop.
