A Bite To Eat Chifley

A Bite To Eat is a long-standing neighbourhood cafe at the Chifley Shops, in Canberra's south-side Woden bubble. It opens from 6:30am on weekdays and 7am on weekends, and the draw for dog owners is the footpath dining at the front, where well-behaved on-leash dogs are welcome while you work through a famously generous brunch.

The dog setup

Dogs are permitted at the outdoor seating directly in front of the cafe, on lead and under control, on the footpath side of the tables as is standard across Canberra. Water bowls are often provided and staff are known for being genuinely welcoming to dogs in the outdoor section. The outdoor tables look over the adjacent park, handy if your dog prefers a view or needs a quiet patch of grass to settle on.

The food

The kitchen turns out all-day brunch with a reputation for sizeable portions: hearty burgers, fish, eggs benedict and a solid chicken burger, plus vegan and gluten-free choices for the table. The decor leans quirky and eclectic, service is brisk, and weekends fill early, so a pre-8am arrival is the calmer option for a dog that does not love crowds.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits at the Chifley local shops, a short drive from Woden and an easy walk for nearby Lyons and Pearce residents. Street parking along the shop front and adjacent streets is free, so parking with a dog on lead is simple outside of the Saturday morning rush.

Close by with the dogs

For a proper off-lead run before brunch, the Duffy Weston Creek dog park is a fully fenced option about ten minutes west, with separate large and small dog areas. Nearby dog-friendly stops include Lil Milkbar and La Veera Cafe in Lyons, and Two Blind Mice in Curtin covers the restaurant side.
