Zambrero Carrum Downs

Zambrero Carrum Downs is a fast-casual Mexican counter at the Carrum Downs Shopping Centre on Hall Road, turning out customisable burritos, bowls, tacos and nachos from late morning into the evening. Dogs are welcome at the footpath seating out front, which makes it a practical leashed stop on a shopping run or a walk through the precinct.

The dog setup

Dogs join you outside on the paved footpath fronting the shops, on a lead. Inside is off-limits under food safety rules, with the usual exception for service animals. Water bowls are not guaranteed, so pack your own collapsible one, and keep your dog tucked in close to the table because the footpath gets trolley and pram traffic through the day.

Worth knowing

The menu is Zambrero's fresh Mexican line-up built around burritos and bowls, and every burrito or bowl purchased triggers a meal donation through the Plate 4 Plate program, which distributes meals via partners including Foodbank in Australia. Hours run from 10am, trading to 10pm Sunday through Thursday and a later 11pm close on Friday and Saturday nights.

Getting there and parking

It sits at Shop 49A, 100 Hall Road, inside the Carrum Downs Shopping Centre, with free parking in the main centre car park and level, accessible access from the car park to the footpath tables. If you would rather make it a longer outing, Frankie's Coffee and Eats is another local cafe option in the suburb.

Make a day of it

The Sandfield Reserve Fenced Dog Park is a modern, fully fenced park with separate areas for quiet and active dogs, double-gated entries, agility equipment and water taps, and dogs are also allowed off-lead in the wider reserve away from the playground. The Banyan Reserve dog off-leash area covers eight hectares with walking tracks and a water station, both a short drive from the shopping centre.
