Felons Barrel Hall

Felons Barrel Hall is an industrial-scale beer hall at Howard Smith Wharves, sitting under the Story Bridge on the Brisbane River. It pours beer straight from the tanks alongside a serious barrel-aging program, and the entire outdoor riverside seating area is where dogs are welcome. With river and bridge views on all sides, the setting does most of the work.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the open-air seating and lawn areas around the hall, but not inside the building itself, per the venue's own house rules. The outdoor tables mostly run on a walk-in basis, and staff are used to dogs and will usually sort out water; bring your own bowl and a mat all the same. The venue's own guidance is blunt about crowds: it gets loud and busy at peak times, so this suits a confident dog and is a lot for a nervous one.

Worth knowing

The drinks are the headline: fresh lagers and ales poured from the tanks, plus specialties aged in repurposed wine and whisky barrels, with cocktails, wine and spirits alongside. Food leans toward Southeast Asian-inspired street food and shared plates, from crispy chicken burgers to oysters, rather than the pizza menu at the brewery next door. Doors open 11am to midnight every day, and there is live music on the regular.

Max: elbow-to-elbow on a Saturday night. Bring the dog at 11am instead and you will both enjoy it.

Getting there and parking

The easiest arrival is on foot along the riverside path from the CBD or Fortitude Valley. There is a paid parking station on site at Howard Smith Wharves with lift access down to the precinct, but it fills fast on weekends, so the ferry terminals and the free City Loop bus are steadier options.

Close by with the dogs

Walk lunch off along the river path under the Story Bridge, or head up to the Margaret Street fenced dog park in the CBD for a proper off-lead run. The City Botanic Gardens make an easy on-lead leg-stretch, and W Brisbane is a riverside stay option in walking distance.
