Berrigan Bar & Bistro at 49 Berrigan Drive in South Lake is a modern suburban bistro with a busy beer garden, and it is the beer garden that makes it workable with a dog in tow. Dogs are welcome outdoors on a lead, with shade umbrellas and room to sit beside the table.

The dog setup

Dogs stay in the outdoor alfresco and beer garden seating only, on a lead and under control at all times, since health rules keep them out of the indoor dining room and bar. Staff are generally accommodating, but bring your own water bowl because one is not guaranteed.

The vibe

This is a family-friendly sports pub as much as a bistro, known for on-the-bone Black Angus steak, pub classics like parmy and beer-battered fish and chips, and a large screen with several smaller ones. Expect a lively, packed beer garden during major games.

Doors open from 10am daily, closing at 9pm Sunday to Wednesday and 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with bookings recommended for weekends.

Max: the lead rule is firm here and sport nights get loud and crowded fast, so a quieter dog will do better on an off-peak weeknight.

Getting there and parking

The bistro sits on Berrigan Drive in South Lake, reachable via North Lake Road or the Berrigan Drive exit off the Kwinana Freeway, with on-site parking and bus stops along Berrigan Drive.

While you're out there

South Lake Fenced Dog Park is the local off-leash run if your dog needs to burn energy before dinner, and the Bibra Lake Loop is a short drive north for an on-lead walk around the wetlands.
