Barbara Beyer Reserve Off Leash Area is a fully fenced, 24 hour off-leash space at the corner of Whitehall and Harris Streets in Yarraville, part of the wider Yarraville Gardens precinct. It's a solid neighbourhood option for a proper run, popular with inner-west locals for early starts and late finishes alike since the gates never close.
The rules. Dogs must stay on-leash everywhere in Yarraville Gardens outside the fenced boundary of Barbara Beyer Reserve itself. Keep at least 30 metres from the playground, and carry a leash and keep voice control of your dog even inside the off-leash area, other users and their dogs share the space. Pick up after your dog, bins are on-site.
What's there. Full perimeter fencing, benches for owners, council bins with bag dispensers, and a mix of open sunny ground and shaded patches under the surrounding trees.
Getting there. The address is 151 Whitehall Street, Yarraville VIC 3013, a few minutes from the West Gate Freeway and the CBD, with street parking along Whitehall Street and nearby roads. Yarraville and Seddon stations (Williamstown line) are both roughly a 15 to 20 minute walk. Local buses run along Somerville Road and Whitehall Street.
Nearby with the dogs. Bass Note Cafe sits directly across the road from the gardens and welcomes dogs with water bowls, treats and shaded outdoor seating. Woven on Stephen Street has a footpath and green space area for dogs to settle in the shade, and Alfa Bakehouse opposite the station has a spacious outdoor courtyard. For a stay, check pet-friendly listings around Yarraville, Seddon and Footscray on the usual booking platforms and confirm pet terms before booking.

Early morning (7 to 9am) and late afternoon (4.30 to 6.30pm) are the busiest windows as locals fit in a pre or post work run. The reserve isn't well lit, so aim for daylight hours, especially once the shorter winter afternoons set in.
