Piney Lakes Reserve Off Leash Dog Park

Piney Lakes Reserve Off Leash Dog Park covers the fenced dog play area and the surrounding off-leash zones of Piney Lakes Reserve, entered off Murdoch Drive in Winthrop. The fenced play park, run by the City of Melville, opened in 2022 and sits inside a much bigger reserve of paved paths, bushland and a lake.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off-leash in the designated areas of the reserve and inside the fenced play park, which is split into separate zones for small dogs, all dogs, and an agility area with logs and tunnels. Back on lead near the playground, picnic areas and the sensitive environmental zones, and dogs are excluded from the sensory play park entirely. Keep dogs under control, close every gate behind you, and clean up straight away.

Pepsi: the lake side of the reserve makes a nice add-on loop once your dog has had a run in the fenced park, just keep the lead handy for the sensitive areas near the water.

The vibe

Agility equipment and water bubblers with bowls are in the fenced park, and the wider reserve adds public toilets, picnic tables, barbecues and food trucks on weekends. The reserve also links into the roughly 3.4-kilometre Piney Lakes walking trail if you want to extend the visit past the fence.

Getting there and when to go

The address is 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop, entering via Murdoch Drive, with a large free car park right by the dog park. Transperth buses stop nearby on Murdoch Drive and Leach Highway. Saturday and Sunday mornings between about 9am and 11am are the busiest stretch, along with weekday afternoons after 4:30pm; weekday mornings and middays are quieter.
