Wavell Puppy Park

Wavell Puppy Park is the local name for the off-leash area on Fourteenth Avenue, Wavell Heights, on Brisbane's northside. It is a quiet, well-shaded suburban park open around the clock, used mainly by residents for a run and a bit of socialising, and park directories describe an enclosed space with sections that suit smaller dogs and puppies.

The dog setup

Keep your dog on-leash until you are inside the off-leash area, hold voice control once they are off, and pick up after them. Aggressive dogs should be leashed and removed. Fencing reports vary between sources, so do not assume the whole area is enclosed; walk the boundary with a dog that likes to wander before you rely on it.

Worth knowing

Mature trees give solid shade, with benches for owners, open grass for ball work and dog water generally available. Access is flat and easy from the street, and the mix of grass and dirt holds up fine in dry weather.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Fourteenth Avenue and the surrounding streets, with easy access from Gympie Road and Rode Road. Bus stops on the main roads nearby are a short walk away. Weekday mornings are quietest; late weekday afternoons and weekend mornings draw the regulars.
