Edgar Griffiths Dog Park

Edgar Griffiths Dog Park on Garden Park Drive is the City of Wanneroo's purpose-built off-leash park: two fully enclosed areas behind 1.8 metre fencing with double-gated entries, open 24 hours. If your dog needs secure fencing before you can relax, this is the local benchmark.

The dog setup

Both enclosures are off-leash, but the City still expects dogs under effective voice control and supervised the whole time. The park is split into a small-dog area and a larger all-dogs area, so pick the side that fits your dog and stay there. Clean-up is on you, with free bags and bins at the entrances and near the picnic areas.

There is agility equipment including a bridge and sit-stay platforms, sand pits for committed diggers, drinking fountains with tippable dog bowls, picnic shelters, benches, public toilets and decent natural shade from established trees. Concrete and limestone paths loop through the park, easy going for prams and wheelchairs.

Max: double gates only work if you let the first one latch before opening the second. Take the extra two seconds, especially with a bolter.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 29 Garden Park Drive, Wanneroo, just off Wanneroo Road. There is a free car park plus street parking on Garden Park Drive, and Transperth buses along Wanneroo Road leave you a short walk away.

Worth knowing

The sand pits are fair game, so let them dig, but plan a paw rinse at the fountain before getting in the car. Weekend mornings and weekday late afternoons are the social peak, with midweek mid-morning the quiet window. If the main enclosure looks hectic, the smaller area often has space. This park is a strong pick for escape artists, nervous dogs that need a fence to settle, and anyone building recall in a controlled space.

Pepsi: let them dig in the sand pits without worry, just budget five minutes for a rinse and a towel-off before the drive home.
