Tarragindi Small Dog Park

The Tarragindi Small Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash enclosure set aside for smaller breeds and timid dogs, at the corner of Tarragindi Road and Cracknell Road inside the broader recreation reserve. Its whole purpose is a calmer alternative to the mixed-size parks: no big, boisterous dogs barrelling through, just a secure grass run sized for little legs.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with bench seating inside and partial shade from mature trees around the edges. There is no separate agility gear or water supply you can count on; taps and bowls appear sometimes, but bring a portable bowl and your own water to be safe. The ground is grass, so expect the usual wear patches near the gate after a wet week.

The rules

This is a Brisbane City Council designated off-leash area, but only inside the fence. Leash your dog until you are both through the gate, stay inside with them while the lead is off, and remove any dog showing aggression immediately. Carry bags and clear waste straight away, and keep vaccinations current before mixing in any public dog space.

Getting there and parking

Access and on-street parking are both via Cracknell Road, which keeps the approach quiet compared with the main roads. Bus stops along Tarragindi Road are a short walk away if you arrive on foot.

Pepsi: the small-dog enclosure at Shaftesbury Street gets busier than this one, so if my human wants me to build confidence off-lead, this is the quieter classroom.

Worth knowing

Weekends and weekday evenings after 4:30pm are the busy windows; mid-morning around 10am and early afternoon around 2pm on a weekday are the quiet ones. This is a confidence-building park rather than a marathon-running one, which suits small breeds, seniors and dogs still learning park manners.

Close by with the dogs

For a bigger off-leash setup with dedicated big-dog grounds, Shaftesbury Street Big and Small Dog Parks is the suburb's main facility. Toohey Forest sits on the doorstep for an on-lead bush walk along the Toohey Forest tracks, and Botanicafe in neighbouring Moorooka is a short drive for coffee afterwards.
