The long fenced off-leash strip under the power lines between Whitesides Avenue and Glengala Road, entered from Collenso Street in Sunshine West. Locals just call it the Collenso Street dog park, and its size, about 200 metres end to end, is what earns the visit.

The rules. Off-leash inside the fully fenced area, open 24 hours. Keep effective voice control, close the gates behind you, leash up on the easement outside the fence, and pick up after your dog - bins are provided, but bring spare bags.

What's there. Secure fencing, benches, bins and a scatter of small trees for limited shade, so bring your own water bowl in summer. The grass gets muddy through winter and the ground is uneven in places, so keep an eye on dogs running at full tilt. Brimbank Council has consulted on upgrades to the area, so facilities may improve over the next few years.

When to go. Weekday mornings are the quiet window; weekend mornings and late weekday afternoons are the social ones. If your dog prefers open space without a fence, Gresham Way Reserve is a short drive away, and Sunshine Social on Glengala Road takes dogs outdoors when the run is done.
