Collenso Street Electricity Easement Fenced Dog Park

The Collenso Street dog park is the long fenced off-leash strip under the power lines between Whitesides Avenue and Glengala Road, entered from Collenso Street in Sunshine West. Locals rarely use the full title; the size, about 200 metres end to end, is what earns the visit, and it runs off-leash inside the fence around the clock.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies inside the fully fenced area only. Keep effective voice control while you are in there, close the gates behind you, and leash up as soon as you step onto the easement outside the fence. Brimbank treats uncollected waste as a littering offence, so bags are non-negotiable; bins are provided but carry spares.

There are benches, bins and a scatter of small trees for limited shade, and the ground is a mix of grasses rather than manicured turf because the park sits within the Glengala Link habitat corridor, with native vegetation retained around the run. In practice that means the surface holds up year round but gets muddy through winter and uneven in places, so keep an eye on dogs running at full tilt. Bring your own water bowl in summer.

Getting there and parking

Entry is from Collenso Street, with street parking on the surrounding Sunshine West streets. The strip is easiest reached from the Whitesides Avenue end, and the surrounding grid makes walk-in visits simple for locals.

Worth knowing

Brimbank has consulted on upgrades to the area, so facilities may improve over time; the basics are functional rather than polished today. Shade is limited across the whole run, which matters on hot days, and winter mud is a known trade-off. The 24-hour access makes it a workhorse for shift workers and early risers.
