Cairnlea Dog Park

Cairnlea Dog Park sits inside Kevin Flint Memorial Reserve on Furlong Road in Cairnlea, and it is the secure option in this part of Melbourne's west: fully fenced enclosures with double gated airlock entries, off leash around the clock. It suits owners who want to relax while the dog runs, rather than watch the boundary line the whole visit.

The dog setup

The park is split into separate enclosures, each with its own double gated entry, including a dedicated space for small, older or shy dogs away from the main run. Inside you will find agility equipment, a sand pit, a dry creek bed for sniffing and digging, a drinking fountain with a low dog bowl, shelter with shaded seating, and paved paths connecting the zones. Bag dispensers and bins are on site, though it never hurts to carry a spare bag.

Off leash rules

Dogs run off lead inside the enclosures only. Keep them leashed in the car park and the surrounding reserve, and note Brimbank's wider rules require leads near playgrounds, BBQ areas and active sport. Stay inside the park with your dog, carry a lead, and keep voice or visual control at all times. Dogs showing aggression need to be leashed and taken out straight away, and the small and shy dog zone is there precisely so nervous dogs do not have to share space with the zoomie set.

Worth knowing

Weekday late afternoons and weekend mornings draw the biggest crowds, so if your dog prefers a quieter session aim for mid morning on a weekday. The park drains reasonably well after rain and is generally well maintained, but it pays to check conditions if you are heading out after heavy weather.

Getting there and parking

Free parking sits next to the sports ovals off Furlong Road. The park is not close to a train line; Ginifer Station is the nearest, about a twenty to thirty minute walk or a short bus ride away, so for most people driving is the practical choice.
