Duke Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park is a large, fully fenced off-leash area in Sunshine North with clear views over the Maribyrnong River and the city skyline beyond. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the size of the enclosure makes it a solid choice for dogs that need real room to run rather than a quick lap.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash only inside the fenced boundary. Owners need to stay in the park with their dog, keep them under voice control, and carry a leash for the walk in and out. Remove an aggressive or overly boisterous dog immediately if things get tense with another dog.

What's there. The park has secure perimeter fencing, established trees for shade, terraced seating for owners, and a water tap, though it is worth bringing your own bottle and bowl as a backup. Bins are provided but bring your own bags too. There are no public toilets on site, and lighting is limited, so this is best treated as a daytime park.

Getting there. The reserve is at 200-213 Duke Street, Sunshine North, with the main entrance off Duke St/St Andrews Drive. Street parking along Duke Street is the easiest option. It is a car trip for most people; the nearest stations, Sunshine and Albion, are a few kilometres away.

Watch-outs. The centre of the park turns to mud after rain, so a towel in the car is a good idea.

This one draws a lot of larger, confident dogs on weekend mornings, so if your dog is nervous around big groups, aim for a weekday visit instead.

Nearby with the dogs. There are a couple of dog-friendly cafes a short drive away in Sunshine, and pet-friendly stays are easier to find in the wider Sunshine or Maribyrnong area than right around the reserve itself.

Saturday and Sunday mornings between 10am and midday are the busiest window. Weekday middays and late afternoons are noticeably quieter, and a good pick if you want the space to yourselves.
