Duke Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Duke Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park is a large, fully fenced off-leash enclosure in Sunshine North, on a reserve with elevated views out over the Maribyrnong River valley and the Melbourne skyline beyond. It is open around the clock, and the size of the run makes it a solid choice for dogs that need real room to sprint rather than a quick lap.

The dog setup

The enclosure runs roughly 100 metres long on the western side of the reserve, with secure perimeter fencing and a double-gated entry. Unlike many bare council runs, it holds established trees and pine clumps for shade, grassy patches and rocks to investigate. Water and bag dispensers are on site, though carrying a backup bottle and bags is wise. Dogs run off lead only inside the fence; outside it, the wider reserve is on lead. Stay in the park with your dog, keep them under voice control, carry a lead for the walk in and out, and remove a boisterous or aggressive dog immediately if play turns tense.

Max: This one draws a lot of larger, confident dogs on weekend mornings. If your dog is nervous around big groups, aim for a weekday visit instead.

What is there and what to watch for

Around the dog park the reserve has a playground, an outdoor gym, a basketball half-court and terraced seating aimed at the views, so it works for mixed dog-and-kids outings. There are no public toilets on site, lighting is limited and the centre of the enclosure turns to mud after rain, so treat it as a daytime park and keep a towel in the car through winter.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits at 200-213 Duke Street, Sunshine North, with the main entrance off Duke Street and St Andrews Drive. Street parking along Duke Street is the easiest option, and it is a car trip for most people: Sunshine and Albion stations are a few kilometres away.

While you're out there

Weekend mornings between about 10am and midday are the busiest window; weekday middays and late afternoons are the quiet ones.
