Riviera Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Riviera Reserve is a large open sports reserve on Eel Race Road in Seaford, with wide grassy fields used by local cricket and football clubs and a designated off-leash area under Frankston City Council rules. For dogs it means genuine room to run and fetch, with the trade-off that the reserve is unfenced and sits close to the road.

The dog setup

There is no perimeter fence, so this is a voice-control space rather than a secure enclosure, and it does not suit a dog with unreliable recall near traffic. On the plus side there is a water tap and fountain usually fitted with a bowl, shaded perimeter seating, and bins for waste. The central playground is separately fenced, keeping kids and dogs apart.

Max: pick your corner away from Eel Race Road before you unclip. The fields are big enough that you can always give the road edge a miss.

Worth knowing

Dogs must be on lead within 10 metres of the central playground and barbecue areas, and on lead during any organised sport or training on the fields. Outside those zones, off-leash dogs need strict voice control and you must carry a lead at all times. Greyhounds stay on lead in council areas regardless. Clean up after your dog and use the bins provided.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 52R Eel Race Road, Seaford, with free kerbside and car park parking on site. Seaford and Kananook stations on the Frankston line are both roughly a 20 to 25 minute walk away, and local bus routes drop nearby, so it is reachable without a car.
