Greenwood Park Dog Off Leash Area

Greenwood Park is an open sports ground off Greenwood Avenue in Ringwood that doubles as a local off-leash spot under Maroondah City Council rules. The defining catch: it is unfenced and borders open roads, so reliable recall is the price of entry.

The rules

Dogs can go off-lead here as long as they stay under effective control: within sight, within call, and not rushing people or other dogs. When a formal sports match or training session is on the oval, the leash goes straight back on. Clean up after your dog and bring your own bags, as none are supplied on site.

Max: no fence and open roads close by, so I'd keep a nervous or distractible dog on lead until you know the recall holds in this particular spot.

The terrain

Mostly flat grass over an oval that drains well, which keeps the mud down after rain. The open sweep suits big runners, fetch machines and dogs that want a proper gallop rather than a lap of a suburban pocket park.

What's there

A water tap sits on the pavilion wall, with limited bench seating around the ground. There are no public toilets at the reserve itself, though the adjoining Jubilee Park precinct next door has playgrounds, picnic tables, barbecues and toilets. The playground nearest the off-leash area is separated from it, and dogs should stay on lead on the shared paths.

Getting there

The park is off Greenwood Avenue, easily reached from Maroondah Highway or EastLink, with street parking along Greenwood Avenue. Ringwood Station is roughly a 15 to 20 minute walk, and buses along Maroondah Highway stop closer still.

Close by with the dogs

If the unfenced boundary rules out a run for your dog, the region's fully fenced options are a short drive away: Parkwood Fenced Dog Park in Ringwood North and Eastfield Fenced Dog Park in Croydon. The HE Parker Reserve off-leash area is another unfenced option on the Heathmont side.
