National Park Fenced Dog Park sits at 64 Brooks Street in Railway Estate, a fully enclosed off-leash run inside a bigger Townsville City Council community park that also packs in a children's playground, public toilets and a boat ramp. The name confuses newcomers, but the setup is straightforward: it is a training-and-play park with built-in agility gear, not just open grass, and it's open around the clock.

The dog setup

The fenced enclosure is the draw: secure walls mean a dog with average recall can still get a genuine off-lead run in the city. Inside there is agility equipment, including ramps and jumps, for dogs that want structure with their play, plus shaded seating for owners. Council guidelines apply: dogs stay on-lead until you are inside the fence and again on the way out, remain under effective voice control within it, and owners stay inside with their dogs throughout. Clean up after your dog and fill in any holes they dig.

The wider park counts as on-leash territory, including the car park and the playground edge, so keep the lead clipped on until you're through the gates. The playground, toilets and boat ramp parking make it an easy family stop, with the dog park as one part of the outing.

Early mornings and late afternoons are the busiest windows as locals bring dogs out before and after work, and the tropical heat makes the middle of the day a poor choice for any dog. If the park is crowded, Rossiter Park at Aitkenvale is the natural alternative, with its own fenced run along the Ross River.
