Sirens Bayside is a health-focused cafe in Belgian Gardens with a large fenced outdoor area that is genuinely set up for dogs rather than just tolerating them. It sits close to Belgian Gardens beach, so it works well as a coffee stop before or after a walk along the water.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the fenced, covered outdoor area, which is spacious enough to settle into rather than squeeze into. The main indoor dining room stays dog-free, standard for a cafe kitchen. Water bowls are usually out in the outdoor section, and the cafe is known locally for its resident dog Marlin, who tends to greet visiting dogs.

The menu and the vibe

The kitchen leans healthy: organic, fair-trade coffee, smoothie bowls, cold-pressed juices, smashed avo and a mushroom bruschetta that regulars order on repeat, with matcha frappes and smoothies covering the non-coffee crowd. There is a kids play area in the fenced space too, so it copes with families and dogs at once. The pace is relaxed rather than rushed, which suits a slow coffee with a dog underfoot. Hours run 6:30am to 12:30pm on weekdays and 7am to midday on weekends, so it is a breakfast-and-lunch spot, not an afternoon one.

It is at 12/1-7 Mooney Street, Belgian Gardens. Parking is street-based along Mooney Street and the surrounding residential streets, with some limited parking at the plaza complex out front, so expect a short walk on busier mornings. Belgian Gardens beach is a few minutes away for a pre or post-coffee stretch, and the Rowes Bay foreshore is close by.
