William Lawson Park Dog Park

William Lawson Park Dog Park is the off-leash area inside the William Lawson Park recreation reserve on Myrtle Street, Prospect, in Sydney's west under Blacktown City Council. The reserve is a busy sporting ground, so the dog area is the corner of the park where your dog can legally run free.

The dog setup

The dog area is described as fully fenced, and off-leash time is permitted only within the signposted zone. Council rules apply across the reserve: dogs must stay under effective control, meaning they respond to voice commands even while off lead, declared dangerous and restricted breed dogs are banned from off-leash areas entirely, and droppings must be picked up and binned by law. Once you step outside the designated zone, including the walking path and car park, the lead goes back on.

Max: a fence is not a substitute for recall. Practise calling your dog back before you rely on voice control in a shared park.

The vibe

The reserve itself is a proper multi-sport ground: football fields used year round, netball and tennis courts, a basketball court, outdoor fitness equipment and a playground at the entrance. The park lists a water refill station and off-street parking among its facilities, and there is a walking path that loops the perimeter for an on-lead warm-up.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Myrtle Street, Prospect NSW 2148, a short hop off the M4 or M7. Off-street parking is available on site. Blacktown station is the nearest rail stop but not walkable, so plan on driving or a bus for the last leg.

While you are out there

Sporting fixtures fill the fields on weekends, so the dog area gets its share of Saturday traffic; early weekday mornings are the quiet window. If you want a second fenced option close by, Orana Park Dog in Seven Hills, Gardenia Parade Park in Greystanes and Dirrabari Reserve in Pemulwuy are all within a short drive, and Tishy and Co is a coffee stop on the way through Seven Hills.
