A.H Capp Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

A.H Capp Reserve on Halwyn Crescent in Preston is a large, unfenced grassed oval and parkland near the Merri Creek trail. It is an active, multi-use reserve with better-than-average facilities, and the off-leash area is open 24 hours except when organised sport is on.

The rules. Dogs may be off-leash under effective voice control, but must be leashed when cricket, soccer or other organised sport is in progress. Carry a leash, put your dog on-lead before entering and leaving the area, keep clear of the playground, and pick up after your dog. Bring your own bags, as dispensers are not always stocked. Remove your dog if it shows aggression or fear.

What's there. A drinking fountain with a dog bowl, a large shelter with picnic tables and barbecues, an outdoor gym, rubbish bins, and a nearby playground to keep dogs out of.

Getting there. Street parking on Halwyn Crescent plus a small on-site car park. The Merri Creek trail runs alongside, and bus routes are within reach.

When to go. Busiest early morning and late afternoon with the local crowd. Midday and weekdays are calmer for a timid dog.
